I'm a writer, musician, and developer living in the outermost sprawl of DC with my wife, tiny humans, and a ferocious Goldendoodle named Lucy.
The Human
Japheth Benfield, the first of his name, was hatched to human parents in the virginal waters of Genesee County, Michigan.
Bereft of sibling stimuli and the spoils that are said to accompany the onlyborn, he emerged from childhood enfeebled by intense introversion, while suffering inescapable visibility due to his gangly frame. Mankind’s inability to pronounce his name led to his adoption of “Jay” to avoid the harsh spotlight of phonetic inquisition.
Music, guitar, and D&D were a balm for the moody despair that glommed his awkward teenage soul. What wasn’t remedied by Dr. Dre, minor pentatonics, and slaying kobolds, he satisfied through an unwavering devotion to shenanigans.
Jay became a dad shortly after high school. The lack and chaos of instantaneous adulthood left him circling the drain at the base of Maslow’s pyramid. In spite of his best effort, he barely stayed afloat. It was during this challenging time he was given an incredible opportunity that set him on a path to nonfailure. In spite of his harrowing start, Jay’s 26-year career in information technology has been nothing short of extraordinary.
After a stint of melancholy midlife navel-gazing in 2017, Jay realized that throughout his Ludicrous Speed life, he hadn’t prioritized the one thing he’d always wanted to do: write. It turns out that starting books is easy and finishing them is not. At its core, this website is a forcing function intended to exercise his writing muscles and help bring his projects to happy closure.
